You are not what happened to you. You are not defined by the people that hurt you, or the decisions that they made. You are your own person; entirely responsible for your own happiness, and perfectly capable of reaching it.
The past is a lesson — a reference point on the map to your greater destiny.
You don’t have to dwell in it.
You don’t have to be trapped there, stuck in that pain and the memories of things that were beyond your control. That prison can be cracked wide open, and so can your destiny, your happiness, and your resolve.
Every day is a choice. Today, we are given the choice to change ourselves. We’re given the choice to shift our patterns and piece together something that is totally and entirely our own.
Today, I’m making the choice not to be held back by my past. I’m making the choice to let the villains take responsibility. What they’ve done is their burden.
This life is mine.
Every day is a choice. Today, I’m making the choice not to be held emotionally captive by the people and experiences that were never mine to begin with. I invite you to join me.
We are the ones who define our emotional landscape. We decide how we feel and we define our future happiness, too. Self-determination is how we find our peace. The speed at which we get there depends on our ability to be true to ourselves.
Today I’m choosing to be true to myself, and that may not include you.
Today, I invite you to be true to yourself.
Even if that doesn’t include me.
