I agree completely. Women are expected to be constant self-sacrificers, and that’s something I don’t plan to do (after decades of watching my mother and sisters do the same, only to be destroyed by the men who “loved” them).

I hope that society becomes more accepting as well, but I don’t hold out much hope for where I came from (the American South). Who knows, though? The only constant in this life is change, and with other women like you and LeNora Faye supporting, anything is possible.
