If an abusive or neglectful parent grew up traumatised (in an abusive or neglectful environment) – isn’t that all they’ve ever known?
If this is all they’ve ever known, all they’ve been conditioned to see or understand, are they not then doing the best that they can with the darkness they were handed?
“Best” is subjective. What one person feels is best is not best for the next. One person doing their best can look very much like the worst for someone who has been exposed to higher way of living.
When we understand this, we can approach them with greater compassion and encourage them to do *better*.
