Q. Is it normal for my family to bring up my past and I feel guilty about it. (via Quora)

A. Is it normal? It’s normal in that a lot of toxic families operate that way. Is it healthy? Is it right? No. Your family shouldn’t bring up your past as a weapon to use against you. That’s not a sign of love, that’s a sign of wanting you to feel bad and limit you based on the decisions of your past. This is especially true if those decisions were made in childhood.

We all experience guilt, but there is no point in holding on to that guilt as it relates to the past. All you can do is take the lesson, decide how you want to do things
