Fraudulent payments, non-existent customer support, and scammy marketing tactics are just the tip of the iceberg.

What does the world think of Medium.com? Despite being told that the site and app are more popular than ever, Trustpilot.com users seem to see the platform as a scammy and fraudulent mess.

That becomes apparent when you check out Medium.com’s profile and see 75% negative reviews.

Yes. You read that correctly. Medium has received more than 140 one-star reviews on the business review site.

Here are a few of the most interesting complaints:

Looking through those complaints, some patterns emerge.

Non-existent and poor customer service. Lack of communication with writers. Refusal to pay earnings (with no explanation). Double charging of memberships. Promotion of fraudulent companies and goods. Misinformation. Fake information. Censorship and/or shadowbanning of writers (again, with no explanation).

Why should that be concerning to you?

Quite simply, the issues above should concern anyone who has a creative or financial investment in Medium.

As users and paying members of this platform, we are stakeholders in the platform. Poor leadership and shady business practices directly affect every writer who uses this platform to read, earn, build an audience, or stimulate their creativity.

This platform's continued lack of transparency creates a number of questions for any rational user. Is our data and payment information safe on a platform that double charges members? On a platform that withholds earnings because of “tech glitches”? A platform that promotes and allows the perpetuation of content from scammers and fraudulent businesses?

More importantly, do we imagine a platform with this kind of reputation is really adding millions of new users in just a matter of months? (With no social media presence, no less…)

Is this the better internet that Tony Stubblebine imagined?

For me, the 140+ negative reviews on Trustpilot paint the only picture I need to know The Coach and the leadership of Medium have willingly misled its writers and readers.
