First of all, it absolutely was a critique — and a flimsy one at that. Second of all, that statement can refer to a lot of things. For example, where I was raised it was required that a woman submit all her power and all her identity to her husband. If she truly loved her husband, she was to submit to him and his desires in both mind and body. I think that would be a pretty cut and dry example of being told (through example) that “true love” entails surrendering your power…wouldn’t you?

If you don’t understand something, maybe it isn’t meant for you. Consider that, instead of making sub-par attempts to invalidate the work of people who are genuinely trying to help people.
