An Afternoon at Europe’s First Palestinian Art Museum

And why this space matters more than ever.

A couple of weeks ago, I got the honor to visit the new Palestinian Art Museum that opened in Edinburgh. The first in Europe, this incredible museum showcases the art of Palestinian artists from around the world, as well as those who have used their work to share the Palestinian struggle. It’s hard to put into words how profound the space is and how profound the message is. Still, I think I must try.

The museum was opened and has been curated by Faisal Saleh, who opened the world’s first Palestinian Art Museum in Connecticut 8 years ago. This new European space, hosted in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, seeks to accomplish the same work as its flagship museum. Share the art of Palestinians with the world, and to remind us all what is really at stake, what we all lose when humanity chooses the worst of itself.
